Rhodiola (also known as Arctic Root, Golden Root) is one of the sedum family, which is native to the Arctic Circle in Eastern Siberia.
Rhodiola rosea was classified as an adaptogen by Soviet scientists for its efficacy in increasing the ability to various chemical, biological and physical stresses. The term adaptogen originated in 1947 by a Soviet scientist Lazarev. He defines an "adaptogen" as a drug that enables an organism to neutralize adverse physical, chemical or biological stress by creating nonspecific resistance.
Rhodiola has been intensively studied in the Soviet Union and Scandinavia for over 35 years. The control group had a much higher number of typos in the proofreading test, while the group taking the Rhodiola rosea had a much smaller range of functional declines.
