Lutein, found in some vegetables, fruits, and egg yolks, is a nutrient with many benefits. It is a member of the carotenoid family. Carotenoids are a class of chemicals related to vitamin A. 
Beta-carotene is well known as a precursor of vitamin A, but there are about 600 other compounds in this family that need to be understood. 
The efficacy and role of Lutein 5% HPLC: 
Lutein and other carotenoids are thought to have antioxidant properties. Antioxidants protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, a damaging byproduct of normal metabolism. Free radicals in the body rob other molecules of electrons and damage cells and genes in a process called oxidation. 
Research conducted by the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows that lutein, like vitamin E, fights free radicals, a powerful antioxidant .
Lutein is concentrated in the retina and lens and protects vision by neutralizing free radicals and increasing pigment density. Lutein also has a shading effect against damaging glare.
