It is a white granular powder that is odorless and tasteless. It is easily soluble in boiling water and slowly dissolves in room temperature water. It is insoluble in organic solvents such as anhydrous ethanol, chloroform, or ether. It can reduce capillary permeability, increase density, maintain normal excitability of nerves and muscles, enhance myocardial contractility, and contribute to bone formation. Its anti allergic effect is due to the fact that calcium ions can increase the density of capillaries, reduce their permeability, and decrease exudation, thereby alleviating or relieving allergic symptoms.
